STG #8

1. Mrs. Rosen says this to Annemarie because she wants her to be a part of the people who wants this to stop. A similar referance is to "The Terrible Things". She doesn't want Annemarie to sit around and do nothing.

2. Kirsti is not afraid of the Nazis' because since they have been there for a long time, Kirsti is the only on out of the three who has gotten used to them being there.

3. Three examples of sortages that the Danes experienced during world war 2 are leather, electricity and food.

4. The Danes can protect the Jews by hiding them in their houses, much like what Annamarie's family does for Ellen in chapter 4.

5. The "fireworks show" that Kirsti watches in late August is the Danes bombing there own ships. They did that because they didn't want the Nazis' to steal there ships and use them against them. That is why they bombed them.

Mary-Kate :P
CHAPTER 1 & 2

1) Mrs. Rosen gives this advise to Ellen and Annemarie because with the soldiers on the corner it is important Ellen stays hidden because of her religion (believing in the Jewish religion).

2) Kirsti is not afraid of the German soldiers Because in the book it says that the soldiers are like landscape to Kirsti because they have been there for as long as she could remember just like they were a wall, stone and tree they were just there always.
CHAPTER 3 & 4

1) Some of the shortages where no leather example when Kirsti's shoes had to be made out of fish scales because no one had leather. Another one is flour example when Kirsti was angry because there was no more cupcakes with pink frosting because the Nazis took away flour. The last thing is bread example in the book when Annemarie gets a piece of bread she had to slit it with Kirsti.

2) Many people would let the Jews hide in their houses or would help them find them a new place to live until the war is over.

3)The "fireworks" that kirsti saw on her birthday were really the bombs the people blow-up the ships because they did not want the
British or Americans to blow up the ships or steal the ships and use them against the Germans.

Chapters 1&2

1. Mrs. Rosen means that you should not let the Nazis notice you, otherwise, they will have a reason to torment you. It's better to be unnoticed.

2. She isn't afraid because they are just there to her. They've always been there. They're like lamposts, just an accsessory. On the bottom of pg 5 it reinforces that.

Chapters 3&4

1. The Danes suffer rubber shortages. For example, they say Samuel, Mrs. Hirsch's boy, has wooden wheels on his bike instead of rubber. And sugar is short because they can't make cupcakes. Finally, electricity is low because they have rations on it.

2. The Danes could harbor them, stick up for them, lead them where the Nazis aren't, and of course, lay it all out on the line to save them.

3. Kirsti watched King Christian X's naval fleet being combusted by himself. He did this to keep the Nazis from taking them over and ultimately hurting the civilians of Denmark.

1. Mrs Rosen tells Annemarie "It is important to be part of the crowd, always. Be one of many. Be sure that they never have reason to remember your face." because if the soldiers do remember her they might hurt her or when they're rounding people up they might take her because to get them to remember her face she probably would have spoken out against them.
2.Kirsti is not afraid of the German soldiers and is "borderline" rude to them because they are just part of the scenery too her since she was too little to remember when there where no soldiers. So she is as afraid of them as you would be afraid of a lamppost.
1.Some of the shortages that Danish people experienced are 1. Food e.g. on page 34 it says Ellen told me that her mother managed to get a chicken someplace, and she was going to roast it-their first roast chicken in a year or more!" so while chicken is easy to get now there it was very hard.2.electricity because on page 43 is says "It was so ling a time since they had dared to use the strictly rationed electricity after dark" If it's rationed then there must not be very much of it. and 3.leather on page 28 it says "'You know there's no leather anymore,' " so that means the soldiers must have taken all the leather to make their boots.
3. The "fireworks show" Kirsti watched in late August was when the Danes blew up their navy when the nazis where coming so they wouldn't be able to use it against them or anyone else.

1. Mrs. Rosen advised Annemarie and said to her that it is important to be part of the crowd always and be one of many and also to be sure that the soldiers never have a reason to remember their face, means that when you are out in the public try to fit in and be with the crowd, try not to stick out. If you stick out the soldiers may get a look at you and may remember you. This is important because this is very good advice for a young girl like Annemarie because she may know what is happing around her, but in this situation this advice may protect her and change her mind on some of the decisions she make.

2. In the book when it says that Kirsti is not afraid of the German soldiers and is "boarding" rude to them, means because she is such a young child she does not know who they are and what they are doing she may just think they are normal people in costumes, I know if I was that little in that situation I would think the same thing. Since
Kirsti is little she is "ignorant" according to my teacher, and because Annemarie and Ellen are older they know who the soldiers are. In conclusion, Kirsti is not afraid of the solider because she does not know who they are and what they are doing.

1. One example of the shortages the Danish people had during the war is no butter. This example can be found on page 9, when Kirsti is complaning about how she wants cupcakes and her mom says they haven't had butter in almost a year. Another example is also found on page 9. The example is no sugar. It is for the same reason Kirsti wants cupcakes and they also haven't had sugar for almost over a year. Lastly, on page 6, it talks about how every day Ellen and Annemarie's moms have "coffee" but ever since the Nazi occupation started they have had no real coffee. Therefore, in the book there are many shortages.

2. The people of Denmark could protect the Jewish people during these tough times is when no one is around the Jewish and the Danish people can be friends like Ellen and Annemarie, but when anyone is suspicious and is around them they will act like enemies. This is important because if they were to be caught both sides would be in trouble. Although the Jews would probably be punished more the Danish still would be in serious trouble with the government and the supporting people in the country. In conclusion, people can be friends but when anyone is near they can maybe be rude to them or do something rude to convince the people the Jews are taken cared of.

3. The kind of fireworks Kirsti watched in late August was actually not real fireworks; the show was really the Tivoli Gardens being burned. As I stated in my earlier questions Kirsti does not know what is going on and just think all the blasting and bombing was fireworks. I think the Danes did this because on page 31, it says that the "German occupation forces had burned it perhaps as a way of punishing the fun-loving Danes for their lighthearted pleasures. I believe in this statement. Therefore, the fireworks that Kirsti saw was really a burning of a place.

1. mrs.rosen advises annemarie and ellen to be one of the crowed because if you get stoped by a nazi officer they might have a reason to stop the same people on the sidewalk again and just stop them for no reason.

2. kirsti is not afraid of the nazis because when she was old enough to remember anything the nazi troops were already in denmark so she always remembers the nazis being in denmark for example in the book kirsti thinks of the nazi soliders as lamp post'a on every corner.

3. the shortenges what the danes had during the war are suger, leather, and oil those materials were given to the nazi soilders so the danes had very little oil no leather and no suger as kirsti asked she wanted the cupcakes with pink iceing.

4. the danes could help the jews by letting some into there homes and saying to the nazis that they are part of the family what will save many jews lives such as what the johansons are doing with the rosens by letting ellen stay with them and pertending that ellen was leis.

5. the fire work show that kirsti saw on her birthday was the resistance sinking the denmark navy so the germans would not be able to take the ships and use them to take over other countries that have a coastline.

Chapters 1&2

1. Ms. Rosen says this because if the guards don't remember you, they think that you are normal, because you haven’t acted different or caused trouble. They should not have a reason to mistreat you.

2. Kirsti isn't afraid of the German soldier because she is so young that she doesn't realize that they are dangerous. Also, they have been around ever since she was born, so they are normal to her. For example, on pg.5 it says, "For Kirsti, the soldiers were simply part of the landscape, something that had always been there, as unimportant as lampposts, throughout her remembered life."

Chapters 3&4

1. The shortages the Danish people experienced during the war were butter, sugar and leather. Proof that butter and sugar had shortages was on pg.9 when it says, "There hasn't been any butter, or sugar for cupcakes, for a long time. A year at least." Proof that there were shortages on leather is on pg. 28, it says, "You know there's no more leather any more."

2. The Danes could protect the Jewish people by pretending that they are part of their family, or find people who can do that, so when the soldiers come, they cannot arrest the Jewish people. For example, on pg. 37, Papa says, "If anyone should come, even soldiers, you two will be sisters."

3. The "fireworks show" Kirsti saw was the bombs that were exploding the Danes' naval fleet. The Danes did this because they knew they would be crushed by Germany, and didn't want Germany to get stronger by taking their weapons, ships, etc.

OB #1

CHAPTERS 1 & 2

1) Mrs. Rosen advised Annemarie with the following words of wisdom, "It is important to be part of the crowd, always. Be one of many. Be sure that they never have reason to remember your face." Because if they remember you, especially for a bad reason, they could easily come after, and kill you and your family. To be one with the crowd is so that they won't pick you, and kill you. Just like what Papa said "They don't need a reason" If you offended them, AND you stick out in their mind, they will hunt you down.

2) Kristi is not afraid of the German soldiers and is "borderline" rude to them because they are normal to her. For example on page 5 it says "For Kristi, the soldiers were simply part of the landscape." Which means that in her working memory the Nazi soldiers have always been there, so she can be borderline" rude to them and not give it a second thought.

CHAPTERS 3 & 4

1) Shortages that the Danish people experience during the war where:

#1 Sweets; Page 9 when Kristi asks when will she get a cupcake, and her mother says “when the wars ends. When the soldiers leave".

#2 Coffees; Page 6 when it says "There had been no tea in Copenhagen since the Nazi occupation. The mother’s sipped hot water flavored with herbs"

#3 Electricity; Page 43 when Mama turns on her light Annemarie says " It was so long a time since they had dared to use the strictly rationed electricity.

2) The Danes could have protected the Jewish people by housing them like the Johnson’s did with Ellen. Or maybe done what Anne Frank did, like giving a secret apartment. It’s what Denmark did for King Christian. They would all risk their lives. They also could try and keep Germans slowed down like when the bombed the train tracks in HillerÇ¿d and NÇ¿rrebro. But since Denmark was such a militarily weak nation, it might have been very risky.

3) Kind of "fireworks show" did Kristi watch in late August? The Danes did this
To sink their own ships because they did not want the Nazis to use them for evil. The fireworks where an excuse so that Kristi and, maybe Annemarie too, would not be scared of the explosions. The Danes where smart to do this because now their weapons won’t be used for the wrong purpose

1. Mrs. Rosen gives Anne the words of wisdom because she does not want the soldiers to remember Annemarie and single her out for hard jobs or death.

2.Kirsti is not afraid of the soldiers because she has grown up with them all around her. On page 5 it says ''For Kirsti, the soldiers were simply part of the landscape, something that has always been there, on every corner, like unimportant as lampposts, throughout her remembered life.''

1. On page 34, the Johansen family enjoyed "their first roast chicken in a year or more." On page 18, Mama used the little stove for cooking because "electricity was rationed now.' On page 22, Annemarie complains that "every night they had potatoes for dinner. And very little else."

2.The Danes could make the effort to hide the Jews whenever they had somewhere to put them.

3. On page 32, the fireworks show for Kristi's birthday was really the Danes blowing up their ships before the Germans could capture them.

SL 18 1. She does this because she doesn't want the Nazis to think they are Jewish.
2. Kirsti is not afraid of the soldiers because on page #5 it says that to Kirsti the soldiers are a part of the landscape.

1. The Danish people had a shortage of coffee, leather, and butter.
2. The Danes can help the Jewish people by wearing the star of David.
3. Kirsti was watching the Danes blow up their own ships. they did this so the Nazis can not use the shps against them or on other countries.

MBI #16
1. She gives this advice because she knows that if you keep doing things like running on the streets and the Nazis know who you are if you keep getting in their way they could get you in trouble. She wants Annemarie to be a regular person who does not cause trouble, and is with everyone else not somome who causes trouble because if they remember your face if you do something bad later the Nazi would say, I remember her she was a trouble maker she probebly did this bad thing.
2. Kisti is not afraid of the German soildiers because they have been there as long as she can remember. On page 5 it says that the soildiers were things that had always been there for Kirsti throughout her remembered life. This shows why she is borderline rude because she was used to them and didn't know what life was like without them she also didn't know what they could do to her.
3. The deanish people experenced shortages to things that the Germans could use for themselves. Like rubber for tires for their trucks, butter, and sugar.
4. To help the Jews the Danes could hide Jews in their adicts and basements like the Johanson's are hiding Ellen. The Danish people could not stand up to the German army because they have too week of a military, but they could do things like bombing railroads so they could not get the Jews out of there and do other things to try to stop the process.
5. Kirsti did not see fireworks at all. She saw the bombs that were hitting the Danish ships sent by the king because the Danes would rather blow up all their Navey than have the Germans come and take controll of the ships and use them for their own purpases like in world war 2. On page 32 it says that they blew the ships up one by one becasue the Germans were coming to get them for their own use.

1. Mrs.Rosen tells Annemarie to be one of the crowd and to never give them a reason to remember your face because if you were someone living in a German occupied country the you never want to get on the bad side of a Nazi because they can make your life very hard for you and are feared for their cruelty.

2. Kirsti is rude to the Nazi who touches her hair which they nicknamed "Giraffe" who patrols the street Osterbrogade because when the Nazis' first occupied Denmark, where they live, she was very young and didn't really remember what life was like before the occupation of Denmark. Due to this they had become just like a lampost or just part of the landscape because the soldiers were in her life for as long as Kirsti remembered on the bottom of page 5. She was rude to them because she is just a "ignorant" child and didn't know how dangerous it was to be rude to a Nazi soldier because if someone much older disrespected a Nazi like that the Nazis' would not be too pleased about it and the person might be punished by the Nazis'. (sword hammer)

__________________________

1. Two more of the examples of the shortages that the Danes faced during the war was on page 43 and again on page 12 when rationed electricity was mentioned that is an example of an energy shortage because if they had plenty there would be no need to ration. Another example of a food shortage is on page 22 when Annemarie thought about how little there was because it seemed like they had potatoes every night for dinner.

2. The Danes could protect the Jews of Denmark not like what people think of when they think of bodyguard: a big muscley guy with sunglasses. But instead they can protect them by hiding them away or helping them escape. Because if you don't protect them now. They won't be able to protect you later on.

3. The "fireworks show" that Kirsti saw on her birthday many years ago was when the Germans were about to commandeer the Danish Navy to use for themselves so King Christian X destroyed his entire navy so his countrys weapons wouldn't be used for evil. The Danes did this so when the Nazi's came for the the Danish navy there wouldn't be anything for them to take and use to kill more innocent people.

Chapters 1 and 2

CE#7

1. Mrs. Rosen advises Annemarie because if the Nazis remembered Annemarie and Ellen, they may single them out or become suspicious. Ellen, because she is a Jew, could be sent to the concentration camps.

2. Kirsti is not afraid of the Nazis because she doesn't know about the terrible things they do, and they are nothing new to her, she has seen them in all of her knowing memory. For example, on pages 6-9 Kirsti boasts about how unafraid she was.

Chapters 3 and 4

1. The Danish people experienced many shortages, including lack of butter, coffee, tea, and leather.

2. The Danes could act as body guards by not rating out on them. When the Nazis came to round up the Jews, the could house people, as the Johansons did with Ellen.

3. The "fireworks show" wasn't a show at all. It was the sounds of the Danes blowing up their own navy ships. They did this so the Nazis would not take control over them and use the ships for their own purposes in the war.

1. I believe that Mrs. Rosen advises Ellen to always be one of the crowd, not give the soldiers a reason to remember your face etc. to try to prevent Ellen from getting herself and her family in trouble. If Ellen at all upsets or is rude to the soldiers it could put her and her family at grave danger as well as any friends like the Johansens. I believe that Mrs. Rosen is trying to prevent any possible threat to her family’s well-fare by trying to keep Ellen from disturbing the soldiers a bit. I believe that Mrs. Rosen, in a situation like the Nazi soldier occupation you must “play your cards correctly” and always be careful of anything you do as well as your friends and family if you are Jewish. In conclusion I believe Mrs. Rosen is just trying to protect her family and hopefully prevent any possible trouble in the future.
2. I believe that Kirsti is not as intimidated by or frightened of the Nazi soldiers than everyone else because they have been there as long as she can remember. As it says on page 5-bottom- the occupation soldiers “is simply part of the landscape” and nothing different than what Kirsti has always known. On the other hand, Ellen and Annemarie remembered life before the occupation and the occupation is something that is different, frightening, and definitely something scary that is not to custom. Kirsti is herself around the soldiers, rambunctious, pouty, and bold as if the Nazi soldier is invisible to her. Ellen and Annemarie are terrorized by the soldier and talk afterword how frightened they each were, but to Kirsti the soldiers blend into the squares and lamp posts and are not seen as a danger but as a part of everyday life.

PG#13
1.) Mrs. Rosen advises Ellen and Annemarie to stay away from the German Soldiers because they shouldn't remember their faces in case the two girls and Kirsti of course do something intimidating to the Soldiers.

2.) Kirsti isn't afraid and is rude to the German Soldiers because on page 4 it says that
Kirsti scolds at the German Solider to don't touch her curls Kirsti isn't afraid of the Soldiers because the Soldiers have been a part of Kirsti's life ever since she was a baby.

1.) 1Shortage that the Danish people have is lack of (example leather.)

Another shortage that they have is lack of (examples butter, flour, and sugar.)

2.)They can protect the Jewish folk by finding a safe place for them to stay, to help by hiding them in their houses, and one last way to help is to bring the Jewish families food if they are hidden away.

3.) The fireworks that Kirsti watched she thought it was for her birthday, the Danes did this because they needed a place that they could be free willing and to have light hearted pleasures.

1. Mrs. Rosen advises Annemarie with the words of wisdom because if they saw her face again she would stand out from the crowd and would be noticed. For example if the soldiers saw her again they would know who she was.

2. Kirsti is not afraid of the soldiers and is borderline rude to them because she was only 2 when the Nazi soldiers came so she doesn't remember Denmark without them. She sees them as lampposts as far as she can remember they have always been their and are perfectly normal to her. She is rude to the German soldiers because she is not experienced and they are just part of the landscape to her. For example she is rude o the soldiers when one of them starts feeling her hair she pushes away his hand.

3. One of the shortages that the Danish people had was leather. For example when Kirsti needs new shoes, she has to get shoes made out of fish. Another shortage they had was butter. When Annemarie wanted something to eat she had bread and Kirsti wanted butter but they had none. The third shortage they had was sugar. In the book, Kirsti wants a cupcake and her mother says that they hadn't had any butter or sugar for a long time.

4.The Danes could protect the Jews by keeping quiet. If they told the Nazis of a Jew that they new who was hiding they would get all there posetions and they would be a higher ranking but they would put the Jewish persons life in danger.

5.The "fireworks show" that Kirsti watched in late august was the Danes blowing up their navel fleet, they did this because the Nazis would take over it and that would make Germany more powerful.

1.Mrs.Rosen says hese words because if the Germen soldiers see Animery more then once by her self they might get suspicious about her. Then they might take her or kill her. If she is blended in with the crowed it will be harder for the Germens to choose her out of a roup of people.
2.Kristi isn't afraid of the germen soldieres because she doesn't remember them coming into Denmark and she thiinks that they are just normle people that she can be rude to. One example of this is on page 4 where Kirsti slaps awya germens hand when he goes to touch her.
3.one shortage example is on page 9 where risti asks if they would have butter on their bread and mama replied by saying that they havn't had butter for a full year ever since the war had started. Another example is on page 9 also whre Kristi moans about ow she wants a cupcake and the auther explains that they hadn't had suger for atleast a year and they might get it back when the war ends. The last example is that on page 34 where Anemarie is talking about how Elen's mom maneged to find a turkey from somewhere and i think that means that it was very hard to find eer since the war started and they where very short on them.4 If the people of Denmark steped in to help maybe by being reluctent or having resistents movements even if they weren't jewish the Jews might have had a better chance of serviving so for example if the people of Denmark didn't rat out their jewish neighbers and hid them like Annermarie's family when they hid Elen maybe some of the Jews that where caught wouldn't have.5 What Kristi saw wasn't fireworks, but what it was was The Danish navy blowing up there navel ships. The Dans did this so that the Nazi's couldn't use there ships to hurt other people and by blowing up the ships the Nazi's could know longer use their ships to hurt other people.

1. I think Mrs. Rosen advises Annemarie with the words of wisdom because if the they remember your face, and say you do something wrong, they will be able to find you more easily.

2. Kirsti is not afraid of the German soldiers because she is used to them being there. She has not experienced her life away from the soldiers. For example, on page it says " Stand still, Kirsti, Annemarie ordered silently, praying that somehow the obstinate five-year-old would receive the message. But Kirsti reached up and pushed the soldier's hand away. "Don't," she said loudly."

3&4

1. Coffee, Butter, Sugar

2. They could hide them in attics or in basements where the German soldiers cannot find them. Or they could take them in and say they are a relative to fool the Germans.

1 Mr Rosen advises Annmarie the following words of wisdom never let them have a reason to remember your face. Mr Rosen states these wise words because if the German soldiers remember your face, they might harm you because they wouldn't have stopped you unless you did something wrong.

2 Kristi is not afraid of the German soldiers and is "borderline rude" to them. Because they have been there as long as Kristi can remember they have become part of the background like a lampost or tree. As to Annmarie and Ellen, these soldiers have not been there all their lives and as a result they are more conscious of them.
On page 4 it states "but Kristi reached up and pushed the soldiers hands away, don't she said loudly".

3 The Danish experience many shortages. They experience these shortages because the German soldiers need the butter, the sugar, the tea, the leather, and many more provisions for their own.

4 The Danes could protect the jewish people and act as their body guards. They could do this by not turning Jewish neighbors in to the German soldiers. They could also protect the jewish people by hiding them in their apartments from the German soldiers.

5 The kind of fireworks that Kristi saw were the Danes blowing up their own naval fleet. The Danes did this because they did not want the Germans taking over their fleet and using it against them or other countries.

1. Mrs. Rosen advises Annemarie with the following words of wisdom, "It is important to be part of the crowd, always. Be one of many. Be sure that they never have a reason to remember your face," because if they do remember your face and get suspisious of you because of something you've done they might possibly accuse you of doing something you never did.
2. Kirsti is not afraid of the german soldiers and is "borderline" rude to them because on page 5 it says, "For Kirsti, the soldiers were simply part of the landscape, something that had always been there, on every corner, as unimportant as lampposts, throughout her remembered life." In that quote it proves that she is "borderline" rude because she talks about them in a careless way and it sounds like she pretends they aren't even there.
3. 3 examples of shortages that Danish people experianced during the war were on page 18 when it says "and installed a little stove to use for heat when they could find coal to burn. That is one reason they had shortages because if they didn't have a shortage of coal they could burn it to make heat whenever they want. A 2nd reason that they had shortages during the war was on page 18 again because they say "At night they used candles for light," and that is a shortage because i they had ecectricity they could use lights funning on electricity instead of candles. A 3rd reason that they have shortages is on page 19 when they say, "Soon we will have to add another blanket to your bed" and if they weren't short on blankets they would have ben able to putt another blanket on the bed whenever they want instead of "soon" like they said in the quote and by soon I think it means once you get the blanket.
4. The danes (people of Denmark) protected the Jewish people, acting as their bodyguards by giving them a place to hide out when the Germans came looking for the them.
5. The kind of "fireworks" that Kirsti watched in late August were bombs and explotions that the German occupation forces used to burn the place where they held the "fireworks" and really, Kirsti was being ignorent saying she saw them in the middle of the night on her birthday when really they were the Germans bomming the place.

KGL#17 1. Mrs. Rosen is basically telling Annemarie to blend in. You don't want the Nazi’s to have any information about you just in case something bad happens. You don't want any reasons to be remembered or noticed at all. Again, you need to be one of the crowd.

2. Kristi does not feel the soldiers as a threat. They've been there since she could remember, they are like scenery. For example on page 5 it says "For Kristi, The soldiers were simply part of the landscape, something that had always been there on every corner, as unimportant as lampposts, throughout her remembered life." She's rude to them because she is so young and she doesn't know how dangerous the soldiers are.

3. The Danish experience many shortages for example on page 28. There were shortages on fabrics such as leather so Kristi had to wear fish skin shoes and she was not happy about that. Another example is butter, on page 9 Annemarie has some bread and Kristi asks for butter. Her mother replies that they haven’t had butter in a long time. There are shortages on these things too. The last thing I will tell you about is sugar. There are no cupcakes as stated on page nine for there was no sugar for very long.

2. They could stand up for the Jews and face the Nazi’s. Every Dane could team up and they could be a hard force to stop. Some of the Danes could even die for Jews instead of going against them. There are many things the Danes could do.

3. What really happened was the Dane's sunk their militarily. They blew everything up. It sounded and looked like fireworks so to not scare Kristi Mama told her it was fireworks just for Kristi’s birthday. The Dane's blew up their Navy because they didn't want the Nazi’s to use them against their country or other country's. They were brave and did the right thing.

1. The Danes experience many shortages due to the German Nazi forces taking provisions and food to feed their own army. Some examples are the shortage of: leather, coffee, and butter and sugar. The shortage of leather is shown on page 28 when Kirsti must have fish skin shoes because of no available leather. Secondly the lack of coffee is shown when the author explains how Ellen and Annemarie’s mothers always used to have afternoon coffee, however now they must settle for water flavored with herbs. Lastly there is also a shortage of butter and sugar because Ma cannot make cupcakes, the one treat that Kirsti longs for so much. As you can see, the Nazi soldiers may not quite be hunting out and shipping away Jews yet, but the occupation is causing a handful of changes such as these examples of shortages.
2. I believe the Danes could protect the Jews by taking some of the common actions like the Johansens and Peter did. First of all the Danes could hide the Jews, and not rat out neighbors, but help them find a safe place to stay instead, like the Johansens. Also, many people could join the resistance like peter did and help to stop the German Nazi soldiers by bombing supplies, etc.
3. The “fireworks” that Kirsti saw really were not in celebration nor were they fireworks, they truly were explosions of Denmark’s naval ships. Although Kirsti probably believes these were fireworks it was actually the intentional demolishing of the provision filled ships before the Germans could get to them. I believe that the Danes did this to try to slow down the Nazi soldiers and to not supply them with any more provisions to attack other countries and Jews. In my opinion King Christian was to smart to take such actions, and although you are basically destroying your own military, it was the right thing to do instead of leaving the ships and provisions to the German Nazis and empowering them even more.

Mr rosen said thaT because it is iportant for the soldiers not to know your face and have a right to pick on you and harasse you. So they can't do any thing bad to you because they have no right.
2.
Kirsti isn't afraid of the soldiers because she doesn't really know what is going on because she is just a liTtle kid. And she doesn't really care aboutthe soldiers and everything thats going on. Also in the book she yelled at one of the soldiers. Which shows that she is not afraid of the soldiers.
1.
One shortage is of cole in the book because to put in fires to make them warm and reduce their risk their lives. Also another on is on pg. 18 is fuel because in the book it says something like there had been a shortage of fuel so the winter night are usually terribly cold.
2.
The danes are protect them because the jews are some seriouse trouble because of the nazis and hitler going aroung kill all the jew who they sight any were. Also the other protect them because some other people have nothing against jews and people that trouble them.
3.
They saw fireworks and it was kirstis birthday and mama told her that the fireworks were for her birth day but they were really the nazis' bombs going of around the whole city.

1. Mrs. Rosen gives the advice to Annmarie to stay in the crowd and just be another face because since she is Jewish and hshe has heard of what has happened to the other Jews she now is fearful for her daughter because she could be taken away too also Nazis are just plain bad and so you don't want to get on their bad side escpecially if both sides are bad!

2. Kirsty is not afraid of the Nazis because to her they are just another part of Copenhagen that has been there ever since she can remember. For this reason she was so borderline rude to the Nazis. THE HANDSOME BALD GUY WITH THE BULDGING MUSCLES had said that since Kirsty had only been about two at the time she doesn't remember when the Germans took over and occupied her town and so because of this they are just part of the landscape.

3. The Danes had many different kinds of shortages due to the Nazi's taken their supplies and heat. One example from the book is when the two mothers are having their afternoon "coffee" it is called this because the Nazi's took all of their coffee tea cupcakes ect... Another example of their occupation is when during their "coffee" they begin to knit scarves, mittens, blankets, because they have their heat rationed and so the heat could turn off at any time during the night and they then would be left in the cold with another horrible winter. My final example is when in the book it says that Annemarie was shocked by the light coming out of the lamp, it says this because they have rationed electricity and so because of this they barely ever turn on the lights fearing of how much they have left.

4. The people of Denmark could act and can help to protect the Jews by being their body guards by like in the great legend of King Christian X. The legend is that when the Jews were ordered by the occupying Nazis to wear the Star of David this was not only worn though by the people of Denmark who were Jews but also by every person who was loyal to the king so in short every person including King Christian X worn the Star of the Jews and because of this the Nazis were very confused and slowed down.

5. Kirsty saw a fireworks show in late August thst her mother told heer was for her birhtday but actually was a resistence movement formed by King Christian X were the resistence group blew up all of their own fleet of navel ships as to slow down and also keep from the hands of the Nazis.
